If you love the great outdoors, you know how gruesome it is to cross paths with ticks. There are just so many ways to encounter them.

Although they love warmer months, ticks stay active all year round.

If you’ve had enough of digging ticks from your skin and scratching incessantly because of an allergic reaction, you need to arm yourself.

Applying an all-natural tick repellent can prevent ticks from latching on to you. Here are a few best natural tick repellents to consider.

Citronella essential oil, for example, contains an active ingredient (natural chemical) called geraniol which repels the Hyalomma ticks at only 1%. This makes up at least 35% of the essential oil. To supplement, citronella essential oil contains other compounds such as citronella and citronellol that have additional repellency properties, especially against some pests.

If you’re someone who has a knack for natural products, especially essential oil-based ones, give this product a try.

Protector Tick Repellent

After having a tick embedded in the skin, the individual sprayed TICSAWAY on the tick. Surprisingly, it wiggled its way out of the skin and crawled away.

Lemon-Eucalyptus insect repellent was made by Cutter. This is a reputable brand known for creating pest repellents, both natural and synthetic. This DEET-free repellent was specially designed to repel mosquitoes, but copious individuals have had tremendous success using it as a tick repellent.

This is a beautiful repellent, as it marries lemon-eucalyptus essential oil (Corymbia citriodora) and p-menthane-3,8-diol (an organic compound). These active ingredients work well together, and provided “100% repellency against host-seeking nymphs of Ixodes ricinus.” Ixodes ricinus is a castor bean tick that spreads both bacterial and viral diseases.

Kids Herbal Armor Natural Repellent

Kids love to play outdoors. Rolling on the lawn comes naturally to them, and if they are budding campers and fishers, they need protection from bugs and insects. Kids Herbal Armor Natural Repellent was designed for kids by All Terrain for use against “bug bites.”

It prevents mosquitoes from ruining beautiful outdoor moments but may ward off ticks. The company cannot outright claim that Kids Herbal Armor Natural Repellent repels ticks, as it wasn’t tested by a laboratory for this activity.

However, feedbacks from their customers show that it does a good job at keeping ticks away. Like all the other natural tick repellents for humans mentioned in this article, this kid-friendly option is made using essential oils and a carrier. These plant-based extracts include lemongrass, peppermint, soybean, citronella, geranium, and cedarwood essential oils.

If you have little ones who can’t seem to stay indoors, this natural repellent is a great armor to suit them up with.

Botanicals Insect Repellent IV

Cheers to another DEET-free product that offers protection against biting insects. Botanicals Insect Repellent IV was made by OFF! This brand is all about protecting you and your family from insect nuisances both indoors and outdoors.

The Botanicals Insect Repellent IV was formulated to target mosquitoes, no see ums, and gnats, but may offer protection against ticks. Although the company hasn’t made this claim, loyal customers of the brand swear by its use against ticks.

To be clear, this may not be the best product against ticks, although it contains p-Methane-3, 8-diol in moderate concentrations. REPEL or Cutter lemon-eucalyptus insect repellents are much better options against ticks because they contain higher concentrations.
