Imagine trekking through dense, deep forest areas undisturbed by ticks. You can finally stick your fingers in the dirt in your backyard garden and walk around freely without worry. And, what about those nights camping beneath the stars with friends and loved ones? They can finally be ‘bite-free’.

If you love the great outdoors, you know how gruesome it is to cross paths with ticks. There are just so many ways to encounter them.

Although they love warmer months, ticks stay active all year round.

If you’ve had enough of digging ticks from your skin and scratching incessantly because of an allergic reaction, you need to arm yourself.

Applying an all-natural tick repellent can prevent ticks from latching on to you. Here are a few best natural tick repellents to consider.

All-Natural Tick Repellent for Humans

Did you say natural? We got you! All these tick repellents are made using natural ingredients that are strong enough to keep ticks at bay

Buzz Away Extreme

Buzz Away Extreme is a DEET-free, all-natural tick repellent for humans created by Quantum. It was designed specifically to ward off mosquitoes and ticks so you can enjoy the great outdoors without worry.

Instead of using synthetic chemicals, Buzz Away Extreme was carefully formulated using plant-based extracts. These essential oils contain powerful, natural plant chemicals that ticks find repulsive. In this all-natural tick repellent, you’ll find essential oils such as citronella, cedarwood, lemongrass, and peppermint.

Citronella essential oil, for example, contains an active ingredient (natural chemical) called geraniol which repels the Hyalomma ticks at only 1%. This makes up at least 35% of the essential oil. To supplement, citronella essential oil contains other compounds such as citronella and citronellol that have additional repellency properties, especially against some pests.

If you’re someone who has a knack for natural products, especially essential oil-based ones, give this product a try.

Protector Tick Repellent

Protector tick repellent was formulated by Protector Brands. This all-natural tick repellent for humans has been developed and lab-tested specifically to repulse the deer (backlegged) and dog tick.

Active ingredients of Protector tick repellent are lemongrass, geranium, cinnamon, and peppermint essential oils. Geranium essential oil contains up to 26% geraniol, which we already know has tick repellency properties, based on the research referenced above.

The additional essential oils used enhance Protector tick repellent’s effectiveness against ticks. Another highlight of this oil-based product is that it dries quickly. Once applied, your skin won’t feel slimy or sticky because the oils are properly emulsified.

Adults and children can use this all-natural repellent. It doesn’t contain parabens, synthetic colors, or artificial fragrances. The product’s essence simply comes from carefully combining beautiful essential oils loved by us but hated by ticks.

If you’re looking for a product that you can take with you to outdoor concerts, romantic strolls through brushy areas, or camping, this all-natural tick repellent is here to protect.

TICSAWAY

TICSAWAY is designed by ReLeaf, a nature-loving brand that focuses on using botanicals to solve problems. As the name suggests, TICSAWAY was designed to keep ticks at bay. This all-natural repellent for humans contains the following essential oils:

All these ingredients combined give a strong, pungent aroma that ticks can’t stand. As a matter of fact, a study showed that tea tree essential oil killed more than 70% of ticks when inhaled.

Obviously, the use of essential oils to thwart potentially problematic situations is a growing field, but promising, nonetheless.

Clove bud essential oil also has repellent properties against ticks, while thyme essential oil provided repellency between 68 – 82%.

From a research-based standpoint, ReLeaf chose some of the best essential oils to keep ticks at bay. A consumer of TICSAWAY also related their positive experience with this product. After having a tick embedded in the skin, the individual sprayed TICSAWAY on the tick. Surprisingly, it wiggled its way out of the skin and crawled away.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating. You’ll only be able to attest to the beautiful tick-repelling properties of this product once you’ve tried it.

Lemon-Eucalyptus insect repellent was made by Cutter. This is a reputable brand known for creating pest repellents, both natural and synthetic. This DEET-free repellent was specially designed to repel mosquitoes, but copious individuals have had tremendous success using it as a tick repellent.

This is a beautiful repellent, as it marries lemon-eucalyptus essential oil (Corymbia citriodora) and p-menthane-3,8-diol (an organic compound). These active ingredients work well together, and provided “100% repellency against host-seeking nymphs of Ixodes ricinus.” Ixodes ricinus is a castor bean tick that spreads both bacterial and viral diseases.

Obviously, although Cutter developed this all-natural repellent for mosquitoes, it can be used to ward off ticks. If you love the scent of lemon and lemongrass, the lemon-eucalyptus insect repellent is worth snagging for personal outdoor use.

REPEL Plant-Based Lemon Eucalyptus Insect Repellent

Like Cutter’s insect repellent, REPEL plant-based lemon eucalyptus repellent offers similar protection against biting insects. This all-natural repellent for humans applies well on the skin and doesn’t leave it greasy.

REPEL plant-based lemon eucalyptus repellent offers up to 6 hours of protection against the deer tick and mosquitoes. Active ingredients include the oil of lemon-eucalyptus and about 65% p-menthane-3,8-diol. Be warned, repellents made with lemon-eucalyptus tend to wear a heavy or strong scent.

Kids Herbal Armor Natural Repellent

Kids love to play outdoors. Rolling on the lawn comes naturally to them, and if they are budding campers and fishers, they need protection from bugs and insects. Kids Herbal Armor Natural Repellent was designed for kids by All Terrain for use against “bug bites.”

It prevents mosquitoes from ruining beautiful outdoor moments but may ward off ticks. The company cannot outright claim that Kids Herbal Armor Natural Repellent repels ticks, as it wasn’t tested by a laboratory for this activity.

However, feedbacks from their customers show that it does a good job at keeping ticks away. Like all the other natural tick repellents for humans mentioned in this article, this kid-friendly option is made using essential oils and a carrier. These plant-based extracts include lemongrass, peppermint, soybean, citronella, geranium, and cedarwood essential oils.

If you have little ones who can’t seem to stay indoors, this natural repellent is a great armor to suit them up with.

Botanicals Insect Repellent IV

Cheers to another DEET-free product that offers protection against biting insects. Botanicals Insect Repellent IV was made by OFF! This brand is all about protecting you and your family from insect nuisances both indoors and outdoors.

The Botanicals Insect Repellent IV was formulated to target mosquitoes, no see ums, and gnats, but may offer protection against ticks. Although the company hasn’t made this claim, loyal customers of the brand swear by its use against ticks.

To be clear, this may not be the best product against ticks, although it contains p-Methane-3, 8-diol in moderate concentrations. REPEL or Cutter lemon-eucalyptus insect repellents are much better options against ticks because they contain higher concentrations.
